Overview
Siem Reap - Angkor Complex - Banteay Srei - Beng Mealea
Experience the beauty of Cambodia's religious monuments and countryside from a different perspective as you cycle your way around the Siem Reap province. As the former capital of the ancient Khmer Empire, this area is filled with hundreds of temples set amongst rice fields and small villages. Traveling by bike is the best way to see the grandeur of this country's unique cultural heritage.
Start at the main temples of Angkor, where your expert guide will help unlock the mystery behind these ruins. Cycling amongst the temples gives you a unique perspective of these magnificent buildings. Traverse shady, paved roads and catch glimpses of stone walls and temples peeking out from behind the trees stopping along the way to explore. The highlight of any journey to Cambodia is the imposing Angkor Wat, a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. Nearby the jungle-covered Ta Phrom and mysterious Bayon reflect the diversity of the temple construction.
Venture outside of the main archeological park to discover small villages and traditional Khmer houses as you cycle out to Banteay Srei and Beng Melea. The intricate detailing that surrounds Banteay Srei's walls is a magnificent spectacle that has been preserved in near perfect condition, whist Beng Melea lies hidden amongst strangler figs and dense forest.
Your final day of cycling, head to the Rolous Group, a set of three temples that pre-date Angkor Wat. These stone towers are built in a completely different style from most of the other temples in the area, and are the oldest in the region. Continue to Tonle Sap, largest freshwater lake, and embark on a boat trip amongst the traditional floating villages of this unique area for a picnic lunch.
This unforgettable trip explores the natural and historical wonders of the country as you pedal through Siem Reap and the temples of Angkor.
